Taverna Emborios is a traditional, family run, sea food restaurant on the Greek island of Kasos, which is in the Dodecanese in the very south of Greece. Emborios is the site of the first trading port in Kasos, although nowadays only fishing boats and small pleasure crafts are allowed to moor. There is a bay, a few houses, some apartments and one or two restaurants. Taverna Emborios sits at the very centre of this little community overlooking the bay, the boats and a small sandy beach. During the summer months it is where everyone gathers for their lunchtime swim followed by a leisurely meal that often stretches well into late afternoon. The food is excellent, the setting idyllic and the company first rate. If only we could be there all year round!

Kasos 1970-1971 - here we have some photographs taken between late December 1970 and January 1971, sent to us by Elias Mavroleon. Thank you.

And whilst we are still in a nostalgic mood, here are a couple of photographs of the Kanaris docked at Emborios on the 2nd of August 1977, one of the calm days on which it was possible for the small ferry to dock at the quay. In rough weather it used to anchor in the lee of Makra or Armathia and passengers and their belongings would be precariously unloaded into boats.

My poor old friend Michali, who would ever guess
We'd see you on the internet, looking such a mess

On this site we give you information on both Taverna Emborios and Kasos. We give you a taste of the Menu, all of the food being freshly cooked using only the best ingredients. We tell you about the island of Kasos itself, how to get there, the local weather, a short history and much much more. We give you its Traditions including its music which is still a very important aspect of everyday life. Last but not least we present to you a Picture Gallery so that you can see for yourself what a wonderful place Kasos really is. We are constantly adding new material and to keep you informed we have a Taverna Emborios E-mail update service. If you don't sign up for this make sure you check back regularly to see what's new.
