Taverna Emborios - Mousiki Kasiotiki - The very special music of Kasos brought directly to you

One of the very special things about Kasos is the traditional music that is played there. Whilst the local band is a standard feature at many of the festivals, an impromptu session can begin almost anywhere, at any time, as long as there is a lyra, a lute and someone to sing. At Taverna Emborios this is a regular event throughout the year. The following tracks will give you an idea, or remind you, of the music they play.

The band at Taverna Emborios is usually made up of George and Kesera Kikis and Michael and Kanakis Aspras, although others are likely to join in as and when. The mantinadas they sing are sometimes traditional Kasiot verses and sometimes verses created there and then, about the people present and the days events.
