| In this section we bring you the traditions that are particularly important to Kasos and its people. There are many Greek traditions, some of which are generic to Greece as a whole and some of which are found only in certain areas. Even the traditions generic to Greece as a whole are often interpreted differently, or given more or less importance, from region to region. So far we have the following:
• Mantinades - one of the best loved traditions of Kasos
• Mousiki - the very special music of Kasos brought directly to you
• Elies - the story of the Kasos olive harvest from beginning to end
• Tiri - the story of Kasiot cheese making in mountain huts called mitata
• Name Days - the Greek equivalent to birthdays celebrated in Kasos and abroad!
• Lyra - the musical instrument most favoured on Kasos
It may be the style of music or how it is played; a particular food or a local dance; the way the Saint days or Easter are celebrated; the methods of making cheese or weaving material. Whatever it is, each region, and in particular each island, will have its own idea of how it should be done best. Below is a picture of girl from Kasos in a traditional embroidered dress. It is dated 1811.
